Acid Rain

What gases are the major group of Acid Rain? : Sulfur dioxide and  Nitrogen Oxides
Where do most of these gases come from? : The biggest problem is the burning of fossil fuels by coal-burning power plants, factories, and automobiles. Industries, and Natural Disasters such as Volcanic eruptions
Describe a few negative effects of acid rain.:  Health Problems , The decaying of building material, leave trees and plants less able to withstand cold temperatures, insects, and disease.

What the heck is Fracking?

  1. What is the purpose of "fracking?"
  2. How is "fracking" done?
  3. Why are people concerned about "fracking?"
1. drilling technique; To get natural gas
2. Fracking, in which water and toxic chemicals are injected at high pressure into the ground to break up rocks and release the gas trapped there, occurs thousands of feet belo.
3. their health has been damaged by living near gas-drilling sites. The natural gas has been contaminating people's drinking water.

Should humans continue to construct dams, or not?  What do you feel are the strongest arguments supporting your point of view?

I want to say keep building the dam’s because for the recreation the dams provide prime recreational spaces throughout the U.S. Boating, skiing, camping, picnic areas, and boat launching spaces are all made up by dams.
For helping flood control the dams are helping farmers, dams help prevent the loss of life and property caused by flooding. Flood control dams impound floodwaters and then either release them under control to the river below the dam or store or divert  the water for other uses. For a long time, people have built dams to help control highly destructive and damaging floods.
Irrigation:Ten percent of American cropland is irrigated using water stored behind dams. Thousands of jobs are connected to producing crops grown with irrigated water.
“Electrical Generation, the United States is one of the largest producers of hydropower in the world, second only to Canada. Dams produce over 103,800 megawatts of renewable electricity and meet 8 to 12 percent of the Nation's power needs. Hydropower is considered clean because it does not contribute to global warming, air pollution, acid rain, or ozone depletion.”Debris Control in some cases, dams provide enhanced environmental protection, such as the control of dangerous materials and harmful sedimentation.
When I read about the Three Gorges Dam construction I thought damn there is a lot of negatives about building this dam. I always want to see the good in everything and see what the turn out would be and I took the positive information that I could from the article and said “hey this might not be so bad.” Some positive results of the Three Gorges Dam are the use of water, a natural and renewable resource, as an energy supply!! Hydroelectricity is clean since no greenhouse gases are emitted from producing this type of energy. The Three Gorges Dam will replace up to 50 million tons of raw coal in China’s energy use, prevent more acid rain, and improve health standards, since the air will be cleaner.

graphhh

  1. What is the horizontal axis showing, and what is the range of values? Years range from 1960-2010
  2. Is present day on the right, or the left? present day is on the right
  3. What is the vertical axis showing, what are the units, and what is the range of values? mean carbon dioxide levels, ppm , range=320-380
  4. The graph was created from data that was gathered.  Does the web page state where the data came from?Historical CO2 Records from the Law Dome DE08, DE08 - 2, and DSS Ice Cores : 1010 A.D.to 1975 A.D.
