I want to say keep building the dam’s because for the recreation the dams provide prime recreational spaces throughout the U.S. Boating, skiing, camping, picnic areas, and boat launching spaces are all made up by dams.
For helping flood control the dams are helping farmers, dams help prevent the loss of life and property caused by flooding. Flood control dams impound floodwaters and then either release them under control to the river below the dam or store or divert the water for other uses. For a long time, people have built dams to help control highly destructive and damaging floods.
Irrigation:Ten percent of American cropland is irrigated using water stored behind dams. Thousands of jobs are connected to producing crops grown with irrigated water.
“Electrical Generation, the United States is one of the largest producers of hydropower in the world, second only to Canada. Dams produce over 103,800 megawatts of renewable electricity and meet 8 to 12 percent of the Nation's power needs. Hydropower is considered clean because it does not contribute to global warming, air pollution, acid rain, or ozone depletion.”Debris Control in some cases, dams provide enhanced environmental protection, such as the control of dangerous materials and harmful sedimentation.
When I read about the Three Gorges Dam construction I thought damn there is a lot of negatives about building this dam. I always want to see the good in everything and see what the turn out would be and I took the positive information that I could from the article and said “hey this might not be so bad.” Some positive results of the Three Gorges Dam are the use of water, a natural and renewable resource, as an energy supply!! Hydroelectricity is clean since no greenhouse gases are emitted from producing this type of energy. The Three Gorges Dam will replace up to 50 million tons of raw coal in China’s energy use, prevent more acid rain, and improve health standards, since the air will be cleaner.
